NFC East – Top Performers

WR Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys. Despite the loss, Austin was the lone bright spot for the disappointing season debut of the Cowboys. He caught 10 passes for 146 yards including a touchdown. Alex Barron must’ve heard it from his teammates in the locker room after that holding penalty that cost Dallas the game.

QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles. It was vintage Vick against the Packers, he had 278 all-purpose yards. He threw for 175 yards including a touchdown and rushed for 103. He had scrambles of 31 and 23 yards. Vick energized an Eagles offense that was struggling under Kevin Kolb. If not for an Eldra Buckley fumble, the Packers wouldn’t have gained an extra possession. It’s time for Vick to start.

WR Hakeen Nicks, New York Giants. While it was New York‘s D that won the game for the G-men, Nicks provided Eli Manning with a go-to receiver. He caught four passes for 75 yards. And three of those receptions were for scores.

Washington Redskins defense. Washington’s defense scored a much-needed touchdown because its offense struggled. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall recovered a fumble and returned it for 32 yard touchdown. They almost let the Cowboys steal the game late, but they deserve the win for shutting down Tony Romo and the ‘Boys.

NFC North – Top Performers

RB Matt Forte, Chicago Bears. Forte had 201 all-purpose yards – 50 rush yards and 151 receiving yards – including two receiving touchdowns. He provided Jay Cutler with a short-pass target that helped the QB gain much needed confidence.

QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers. Rodgers didn’t have a great game, but he’s the reason why the Packers beat the Eagles. He threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings. He caught the only touchdown pass for the Vikings in an otherwise forgetful game.

RB Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions. The rookie RB scored two touchdowns for the Lions. He’ll need to carry the offensive load now that QB Matt Stafford is injured.

The Eagles are coming off a surprising loss to the Oakland Raiders in a game where the play-calling seemed questionable.  It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Eagles this year, and they could really use a win tonight to boost their confidence.

Speaking of play-calling, that’s something head coach Jim Zorn won’t be doing for his Redskins in tonight’s game.  That responsibility was handed over to Sherm Lewis who came out of retirement just two weeks ago and hasn’t worked in the NFL since 2004.  Interesting decision by Redskins management.

Spencer (5-2), David (3-4), and I (6-1) think the Eagles will redeem themselves after last week’s loss and come out the winner.  Chase (5-2) is putting his vote of confidence in the new play-caller and picks the Redskins to win.

For week 3 of the 2009 NFL season, we think Kevin Kolb of the Philadelphia Eagles deserves the recognition as our Performer of the Week.

Kolb was not the highest in fantasy football points this past week, he actually came in a very respectable 4th.  In the Eagles 34-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday, Kolb passed for 327 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.  He even had 1 yard of rushing for another touchdown.

Like I mentioned last time, our pick ultimately comes down to our discretion (the benefits of running the site).  But the reasoning behind picking Kevin Kolb was 1) that he threw for 300+ yards in his first two career starts, and 2) when will the guy get another shot at Performer of the Week.  With Donovan McNabb slated to return for the Eagles’ next game and Michael Vick possibly being listed at the number 2 quarterback, because of his role in the wildcat offense, Kevin Kolb may not get another shot for a while.
