There’s no mistaking the smell of freshly cut grass, cracking bats, whiffed balls and rally monkey sightings — it’s that time of year again folks, baseball season. With a few games into the season, there have been five main questions lingering in the minds of baseball fans. Here they are:

Will the Yankees repeat?

The Yankees are favorites to repeat this year and it’s tough to present arguments that will prove otherwise. Not only do they have most of their key players returning, but have recently added Curtis Granderson, Nick Johnson, Chan Ho Park and Javier Vasquez to an already talented line-up. They’ve already beaten the Red Sox two out of three times with Mariano Rivera chalking up two saves.

New York has one of the best bullpens in the league and a line-up featuring A-Rod and Nick Swisher. If they don’t repeat, it would be more surprising than if they did.

Is Jason Heyward legit?

The 20-year-old Braves rookie smashed a pitch over the right field to hit the first homer of his young career. Heyward’s bat speed on his first home run was an incredible 120.9 MPH. He has been highly a highly touted prospect since he was 17. It’s too early to tell if he’ll be a consistent performer but his skills make him a future All-star.

Can Prince Fielder continue his brilliance?

It really doesn’t matter if Fielder decides to leave Milwaukee — he’ll still be one of the most consistent hitters. In his last three seasons here are his home run numbers: 50,34 and 46. Call him a lard tard all you want, Fielder is a model of consistency on the field.

Will the Pirates pick up their 18th straight losing season?

The Pirates surpassed the Phillies last season with 17 consecutive losing seasons. This year, the Pirates are off to a fast start with two quick wins against the Dodgers. They have a mediocre bullpen and only Garrett Jones is a decent hitter. This may be another down in the dumps season for Pittsburgh.

Will Boston’s slow start equal another early exit in October?

Boston lost two straight against their bitter rivals, but it’s no reason to panic BoSox fans. David Ortiz expletive-laden tirade has some point to it. It’s too early in the season to tell if Boston will fail this season. The additions of Adrian Beltre and Mike Cameron will only help the Red Sox this season.

It doesn’t matter what team you root for (not necessarily true for Yankee and Red Sox fans), as long as you’re an avid baseball fan who enjoys spending their day at the ballpark then you’ll go home a winner every game.

MLB Merchandise

If you’re a big baseball fan, it just might be time to show off who your favorite team is with our selection of MLB merchandise. If want your child’s bedroom to be the envy of the neighborhood, check out the MLB bedding for their favorite team.

October is the favorite time of year for baseball fans as the MLB Playoffs get underway. The Divisonal Series have already brought us some exciting moments this past week as 8 teams battle it out to get one step closer to a World Series bid.

The New York Yankees are looking for another win tonight against the Minnesota Twins in their series. If they do win, it will be the first time they have taken a 2-0 lead in a playoff series since 1999. Also in the American League, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are trying to put the past behind them and take a commanding 2-0 lead against the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox have managed to eliminate the Angels in three of the Angels’ last four postseason appearances.

In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers have already taken a 2-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals experienced a brutal loss in game 2 due to an error in the outfield. The Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies are tied at one game a piece in the other National League Division series. The Rockies are currently 4-1 versus the Phillies in postseason play.

If you’re a baseball fan loving this time of year, check out some great MLB merchandise to help you enjoy playoff time even more:

MLB Bedding – a great way to decorate yours or a child’s bedroom. Select from comforters, sheets, pillows, curtains, or an all-inclusive package.

MLB Watches – men’s, women’s, and kid’s watches so you’re always on time for the game.

MLB Merchandise – large selection of various baseball products to decorate your home, office, gameroom, or kid’s room.

The Red Sox and Yankees currently hold the best records in the American League, with the Rangers, Angels, and Rays also boasting 50+ wins. Will we see any of these teams vying for the American League title this fall?

In the National League, the Phillies are definitely working towards a repeat of their success last season, but the Dodgers currently hold the league-best record with 59 wins so far. Other teams looking like contenders at the halfway point are the Rockies, Cardinals, and Giants.

Sound off in the comments below and tell us who you’d like to see still playing in October.

Don’t forget to check out our MLB merchandise and MLB bedding at MySportsDecor.com for great items to decorate your home. Next month, look for the addition of MLB wallpaper border for many of your favorite teams.

Another great gift idea for baseball fans is an MLB watch which you can shop for at MyTeamBling.com.

The 2009 Major League Baseball season is now underway. The 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies fell to the Atlanta Braves in last night’s season opener. Twelve more games are set to take place on opening day today.

This baseball season brings us two new parks in New York, Ken Griffey Jr. back in Seattle, and Manny Ramirez playing his first full season for the Dodgers.

The Yankees spent a record amount to bring in CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and A.J. Burnett, but they will start the season without the injured Alex Rodriguez. Will these pricey players help the Yankees regain their former glory?

Will the Tampa Bay Rays match their success of last season? Can the Washington Nationals go from worst to first this season like the Rays did last year? Will the Cubs and Mets be able to avoid late-season collapses?

These are just some of the questions that await answers as the 2009 MLB season gets underway. Let’s Play Ball!

Get yourself into the spirit of the game with some MLB merchandise and MLB watches.
