NFC East -Top Performers

Week 3

QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles. This man did everything in Week 3. He threw for 291 yards with three touchdowns and also ran for one score. But now that he’s injured, Kevin Kolb “earns” the starting job again in Week 5.

WR Roy Williams, Dallas Cowboys. Williams had his first good game of the season in Week 3 by grabbing five catches with two touchdowns. Too bad he didn’t perform as well in Week 4.

Week 4

Giants defense. New York’s defense put on a throwback performance against the Bears. They sacked Jay Cutler 9 times — in the first half alone. Cutler was knocked around so much that he was finally knocked out in the fourth quarter. His replacement, Todd Collins, was also knocked out in the fourth.

WR Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants. He had eight catches for a total 110 yards. He didn’t score a touchdown but he made several key catches in the fourth and was instrumental in handing the Bears their first loss of the season.

RB Ryan Torain, Washington Redskins. His stats aren’t eye-popping but his early touchdown proved to be the difference between a win and a loss.

NFC North – Top Performers

Week 3

LB Brian Urlacher, Chicago Bears. Urlacher knocked the ball out of James Jones hands that set-up the game-winning field goal from Gould. He finished with nine tackles and one pass deflected.

K Robbie Gould, Chicago Bears. He missed one field goal, but made the one that really counted. This win would give Chicago their third straight win. They lost the next one.

RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings. A game against the Lions is just what A-Pete needed. He averaged seven yards per carry en route to 160 yards and two touchdowns, including a highlight 80 yard run for a score.

Week 4

CB Charles Woodson, Green Bay Packers. He returned an interception for a touchdown, which proved to be enough against the Lions. Surprisingly, the interception was only the eighth of Woodson’s career.

WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions. He had a respectable 86 receiving yards for two touchdowns in a losing effort.

NFC East – Top Performers

WR Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys. Austin caught 10 passes (same as Week 1) for 142 yards (146 yards in Week 1). But he didn’t score a touchdown that could’ve made the difference.

QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles. Arguably the most entertaining football player on the planet strengthened his argument to start over Kevin Kolb. He helped the Eagles pick up their first win of the season by throwing 284 yards with two touchdowns and rushing for 37 yards. His performance warranted him a nod from Andy Reid to start in Week 3.

QB Donovan McNabb, Washington Redskins. It was not his fault the Redskins defense could not control Matt Schaub. McNabb didn’t turn the ball over and threw for 426 yards and a touchdown. Too bad for him he needed another touchdown to help Washington go 2-0.

RB LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles. Vick may be the star but McCoy did plenty of lifting as well. He broke free for 120 yards and three touchdowns. It was his first 100-yard game. He’ll get more after the potential he showed against the Lions. Every time Vick was in trouble McCoy was there for a short reception.

Sorry New York fans. Maybe next week when Eli doesn’t get spanked.

NFC North – Top Performers

RB Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions. In a losing effort the rookie showed tons of promise. He rushed for 78 yards with two touchdowns and had 9 receptions for 154 yards with a touchdown. Such a shame to see a fantasy stuffer lose with those kind of numbers.

QB Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears. Cutler is off to a fast start, having thrown only one interception so far compared to the three interceptions he threw in the first two games last year. His offensive line was iffy in the first quarter but Cutler fought through it and finished completing 21 of 29 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns. He showed some nimbleness when he avoided a couple of would be sacks.

QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers. He improved upon his performance from last game. He completed 19 of his 29 passes for 255 yards with two touchdowns. The Bills were helpless against him. Heck, Rodgers even threw in a rushing touchdown just in case you questioned his mobility. The most important stat though? He was not sacked.

CB D.J. Moore, Chicago Bears. Moore intercepted two of Tony Romo’s passes, which helped seal the fate of the Cowboys. He had no tackles but deflected two passes.

LB  Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers. He was all over the field Sunday and is averaging three sacks a game. He also collected five tackles. I almost felt sorry for Trent Edwards. Almost.

Sorry Vikings fans. Maybe when Favre realizes he’s too old to play football.

NFC East – Top Performers

WR Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys. Despite the loss, Austin was the lone bright spot for the disappointing season debut of the Cowboys. He caught 10 passes for 146 yards including a touchdown. Alex Barron must’ve heard it from his teammates in the locker room after that holding penalty that cost Dallas the game.

QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles. It was vintage Vick against the Packers, he had 278 all-purpose yards. He threw for 175 yards including a touchdown and rushed for 103. He had scrambles of 31 and 23 yards. Vick energized an Eagles offense that was struggling under Kevin Kolb. If not for an Eldra Buckley fumble, the Packers wouldn’t have gained an extra possession. It’s time for Vick to start.

WR Hakeen Nicks, New York Giants. While it was New York‘s D that won the game for the G-men, Nicks provided Eli Manning with a go-to receiver. He caught four passes for 75 yards. And three of those receptions were for scores.

Washington Redskins defense. Washington’s defense scored a much-needed touchdown because its offense struggled. Cornerback DeAngelo Hall recovered a fumble and returned it for 32 yard touchdown. They almost let the Cowboys steal the game late, but they deserve the win for shutting down Tony Romo and the ‘Boys.

NFC North – Top Performers

RB Matt Forte, Chicago Bears. Forte had 201 all-purpose yards – 50 rush yards and 151 receiving yards – including two receiving touchdowns. He provided Jay Cutler with a short-pass target that helped the QB gain much needed confidence.

QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers. Rodgers didn’t have a great game, but he’s the reason why the Packers beat the Eagles. He threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Visanthe Shiancoe, Minnesota Vikings. He caught the only touchdown pass for the Vikings in an otherwise forgetful game.

RB Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions. The rookie RB scored two touchdowns for the Lions. He’ll need to carry the offensive load now that QB Matt Stafford is injured.

First, here are some teams to watch in the AFC division.  One team that you will likely see in the postseason is the Indianapolis Colts.  With Peyton Manning, one of the best quarterbacks to play the game, the Colts have a good shot of getting to the Super Bowl for a second straight year.

Despite a disappointing end to last year, I think the San Diego Chargers will have a great season this year.  It won’t be the same without running back LaDainian Tomlinson, but rookie Ryan Matthews is sure to be a good replacement at the RB position.

Another team that I think could be a huge threat this year is the Baltimore Ravens.  The Ravens have acquired some great receivers during the offseason such as Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh which will create good weapons for the rising star, Joe Flacco.

I’m thinking the New York Jets are likely to win the AFC East and have a great season with their outstanding defense, but I doubt they will make it as far in the playoffs as last year unless quarterback Mark Sanchez can step it up this season.

There are a lot of great teams in the AFC, but I think the Colts will be the team to make it to the Super Bowl.

Next is the NFC, which I honestly don’t think is as strong as the AFC.  The defending champs should easily make the playoffs again with Drew Brees and their great offense, though I don’t see the New Orleans Saints making another Super Bowl run.

The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of talent on their team, but they have to stay consistent to have any hopes of playing at their stadium for the Super Bowl.

Another team with a lot of talent that has a good shot at the Super Bowl is the Green Bay Packers.  Overall they have a great offense and defense that could win them the division.

After the retirement of Kurt Warner, I don’t look at any of the teams in the NFC West as being that good, but I predict that the San Francisco 49ers will be able to win it and go to the playoffs.

The team to beat in the NFC is sure to be the Packers, and I’m thinking that they will be going the Super Bowl to take on the Colts

Colts vs Packers in the Super Bowl is my prediction.  Aaron Rodgers and the Packs are going to be a great team,  but I think Peyton is going to lead the Colts to victory and get his second ring after a not so great ending last year in the Super Bowl.

As a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, Miles Austin becomes the first non-quarterback Performer of the Week.  With 250 yards receiving this past Sunday, he set a Cowboys franchise record, beating the previous 246 yard record that’s been around since 1966.  His 2 timely touchdowns came on plays of 59 and 60 yards, of which the latter gave the Cowboys a 26 – 20 overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs.

And if all of that wasn’t enough, Miles Austin also had the highest amount of fantasy football points this week.  So good call for those of you who put him in your lineups this week.

The Dallas Cowboys improve their record to 3 – 2, while the struggling Chiefs drop to 0 – 5.

The Cowboys are hoping to post their first win in their new stadium and will be looking for Tony Romo to redeem himself after last week’s sloppy game.  They may find themselves without the help of running back Marion Barber who injured himself late in last week’s loss to the Giants.

The Panthers are 0-2 and desperately need their defense and quarterback Jake Delhomme to step it up and help this team get their first win of the season.

David and I (both 3-0) are picking the Panthers for the upset win tonight.  Chase and Spencer (both 3-0) are saying the Cowboys will play a great game and get a big win.

Okay, so the new Cowboys Stadium has hosted some other events this summer, but Cowboys football  is what it was built for…hence the stadium name.  It may only be a preseason game, but this is the first time the Cowboys have played a home game outside of Texas Stadium since 1971.  This is a pretty big event for Cowboys fans, and they’re excited.

Fans attending tonight’s game may miss out on seeing the starters play because they’re too busy checking out the new stadium.

Now we’ll see if the Cowboys’ new home will inspire them to go all the way this season.

And I think I can see the video screen from my house!
